Artaria enjoys its artistic collaborations, and in chamber music the rewards are great. Some of the most remarkable and lasting statements have been penned by composers combining string quartet and one other instrument or voice. This season we look forward to two such ventures.

With our piano friends Jeffrey Siegel and Mary Ellen Haupert we will explore the prickly and acerbic side of life in the Shostakovich Piano Quintet. Jeffrey has invited us to play on his Keyboard Conversations Series® at Sundin Hall in St. Paul (3/25) and Mary Ellen is hosting a "Leap" Concert at Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin (2/29).

Another exciting collaboration this year is a return to the remarkable Schubert Cello Quintet with cellist Tanya Remenikova. We had a delightful time preparing the work for our summer concerts and anticipate another fine performance with her in March 2, 2008.

A very special project we have created is the Saint Paul String Quartet Competition, held annually in the acoustically pure Sundin Music Hall.

This event features the finest high school age string quartets in the country in a unique competing event. The SPSQC invites only string quartets and is judged by a string quartet. This past April we invited the Prize-winning Miro Quartet to be the jury. It was a thrilling day for all. Go to the website www.spsqc.artaria.us for more details.
